Davis Bend Farms is owned and operated by Tim and Leslie Jeffries of Canmer, KY. This operation began in the early 1900’s by Leslie’s great grandparents, Porter and Bessie Davis. Currently, Tim and Leslie’s children are the fifth generation to live and farm this land along the Green River in Kentucky.
Davis Bend Farms, like most agricultural farms, stays busy throughout the year with the registered Angus operation, growing burley tobacco, corn, soybeans and hay crops. It is situated along the popular Green River corridor in Hart County, Kentucky and is a mixture of rolling hills, river bottom ground, cattle pasture, and densely wooded areas.
Pivotal to the success of the agricultural operation at Davis Bend Farms is Tim’s experience of living and working at Buckner & Jeffries Angus Farm, located only 2 miles away. At Buckner & Jeffries, Tim grew up with his two brothers raising and showing registered Angus cattle, traveling all over the U.S. to compete in the show ring at events such as the North American International Livestock Expo, Kentucky State Fair, National Western Stock Show, Dixie National, and the Atlantic National, to name a few. Tim currently serves on the Kentucky Angus Association Board of Directors, has judged numerous livestock shows across Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, served on the National Junior Angus Board from 1990-1992 and was 2nd runner up in the National Junior Angus Showmanship contest in 1990.
Davis Bend Farms believes in breeding cattle that will compliment any herd. Finding the right combination of genetic performance, along with good phenotype plus overall soundness, is what drives our program. The cattle we produce must be able to perform on grass with minimal inputs. Most of our cattle are marketed in the Angus Opportunity sale the first Saturday in April at Buckner & Jeffries Angus Farm. We also participate in the KY Angus Sweepstakes Show and Sale.
We utilize AHIR data on all cows and calves. The 50k genomic evaluation helps identify genetics that further advances the herd. All cows are AI’d one time to breed-leading sires. We also have a very select group of Donor cows that we use in embryo transfer each year.
